Introducing Pooh Bear, our new back up vehicle

January 24, 2018 //  by Global Rally//  3 Comments

We should take a good look at this picture of Pooh Bear, because if our cars have been well prepared, it could be the last time we see it.

It’s Paul’s Land Cruiser and our new back-up vehicle. Paul needs no introduction having faithfully followed every car that ever travelled on a Global Rally event. Paul is accompanied on this trip by his new partner Joanne who will also be an essential part of our back-up team. Paul introduces his car thus:-

“The Bear has a great history, Imported from Japan into the UK in 1992, I spotted him hanging around looking like he needed a good home so I bought him and stored him in the UK rebuilding him in my spare time.

He was shipped to Australia for a brief stay and he decided he would rather join me back in Africa where he had never ventured. So again he was shipped to Cape Town where he found his new home.
He is earmarked to be fully prepared into our new Overland adventure vehicle after the rally. So this is one of his first adventures out of the comfort of his home where he lazes around!
We intend to capture him in all his glory on this great trip of ours… We have two land cruisers in our family, this big 80 Series Cruiser and a Short wheel base Prado.
So one got the name of Pooh Bear the other Piglet !
I wont tell you which one Jo loves driving!!”
So there we have it. A new adventure for our back-up vehicle and this trip should be a good test for his abilities.
Here is a picture of Pooh Bear beginning his journey to Vietnam. No he is not sulking!

Who are the GRO?

We are a non-profit making organisation created for people who relish a challenge and an interest in classic cars. Combining these two things allows our members to explore the world.
The charge for all rallies will be “at cost”, save for a pre-stated administration fee for organising the event and the shared cost of the service / medical crew. We are able to do this as we will also be participating in the adventure and the countries are ones we wish to visit.
