“JKX”, The Porsche 911S — Car number 10

January 17, 2018 //  by Global Rally//  Leave a Comment

Car number 10 on this year’s rally doesn’t have a name so has just been christened “JKX”

Originally imported by AFN Porsche and sold to its first owner, Richard (Dick) Wilcox, proprietor of Denham Service Station, Buckinghamshire, in June 1969, JKX843G was one of only 35 RHD UK examples of the 911S coupe. It is believed that between 10-15 remain.

From 1992, the car was a part of a private collection owned by renowned Porsche racer and restorer, Historika. It was purchased by the current owner in 2013 and subjected to a full and sympathetic restoration.

The 1969 911S, reputably the lightest production 911 built, was the first of the long wheelbase cars. Weight savings in the top of the range ‘S’ version included the use of magnesium in the engine castings, lightweight alloys in the powerful four wheel ventilated disc brakes and an aluminium engine lid. Fitted with mechanical fuel injection, the 2.0litre flat 6 develops 170bhp pushing the car from 0-60mph in 6.6secs with a top speed of 155mph.

JKX joins us along with his (or is JKX a girl?) owners Andy and Sheila.

Who are the GRO?

We are a non-profit making organisation created for people who relish a challenge and an interest in classic cars. Combining these two things allows our members to explore the world.
The charge for all rallies will be “at cost”, save for a pre-stated administration fee for organising the event and the shared cost of the service / medical crew. We are able to do this as we will also be participating in the adventure and the countries are ones we wish to visit.
