The Gathering

February 4, 2018 //  by Global Rally//  Leave a Comment

All the preparation has built up to this, last night’s Briefing.

The route, Rally etiquette, driving rules, safety were all covered, as well as introductions of participants new to Global Rally. Despite many having been awake for 24hours on the journey to Vietnam, engagement was high ahead of our first dinner together.

And what a dinner it was, the hotel certainly spoilt us, with a feast for all the senses.    Lots of little touches too like these, that really made us smile despite the exhaustion:

As well as getting to know each other we also got a chance to get to know a little more about local customs:

Wife and husband cake is a  very traditional Vietnamese custom, so called because a man takes this cake when asking the bride to be’s mother for permission to marry her daughter.

With the feast and briefing complete it was time for some music ahead of a good night’s sleep and a “day out” tomorrow to make sure the cars are all running smoothly.

Before go though we would also like to say a HUGE thank you to Bruno and his team from Destination Rally for all of their hard work and attention to every detail.   Bruno, and his “local team” of Kenny and Tracey, really have thought of everything.  From arranging picnic lunches to keep us going each day, to producing menus for each country we visit so that we can comfortably order the “unfamiliar”.    It will be all these little touches that really go a long way to helping us create some fabulous memories and we are very grateful for all the hard work they have done for us all.

Who are the GRO?

We are a non-profit making organisation created for people who relish a challenge and an interest in classic cars. Combining these two things allows our members to explore the world.
The charge for all rallies will be “at cost”, save for a pre-stated administration fee for organising the event and the shared cost of the service / medical crew. We are able to do this as we will also be participating in the adventure and the countries are ones we wish to visit.
