Monday 11th December

December 11, 2017 //  by Global Rally//  Leave a Comment

Welcome to the start of another week!  A week that saw snow in the majority of the UK so here’s hoping you are all safe and warm.   We did a panic food shop.  Twice.   And haven’t seen a single flake of the white stuff so far so whilst everybody else was out and about building snowdogs and sledging we were safe inside and tracking the the cars that are on the Maersk Erdine.

The ship is now safely past Malta and Scicily (and we were struck by how far south Malta was, we thought it was to the east of Scicily, not directly south.   No wonder it is often the warmest place in the Med!).   Still on course for the port of Suez.    And talking of Suez, has anybody else been watching The Crown on Netflix?  This season touches on the Suez Crisis and it was fascinating to see “behind the scenes” of the government and the monarchy.

It was also lovely to see this tweeted by Twyford Moors last week too, with one of their cars featuring in some of the scenes:

We are delighted to see an XK140 we restored makes a prominant appearance in series 2 of @TheCrownNetflix on @NetflixUK. #Jaguar #XK140 #TheCrownSeason2 #TheCrown2 #TheCrown @XKClub1 @jaguarcarclub https://t.co/i9fGZPrsIR pic.twitter.com/oVi44ruVFR

There are a couple of other cars coming from further afield on other ships so hopefully over the next week or two we will have updates on those cars to share, but we will be back tomorrow with an update on where the Maersk Erdine is up to.

Do get in touch if you have anything you would like to share about your own cars or the preparation you are doing!

Who are the GRO?

We are a non-profit making organisation created for people who relish a challenge and an interest in classic cars. Combining these two things allows our members to explore the world.
The charge for all rallies will be “at cost”, save for a pre-stated administration fee for organising the event and the shared cost of the service / medical crew. We are able to do this as we will also be participating in the adventure and the countries are ones we wish to visit.
